Chris Schwalbach founded AVL Growth Partners in 2009 with the goal of addressing the lack of finance & accounting operations expertise available to passionate entrepreneurs, with a vision to bring the same level of expertise, passion, and focus as Cooley, LLP did in legal services and Silicon Valley Bank did in banking. Chris has helped numerous AVL client companies including SaaS, Medical Device, Services, and Digital Media with setup, capital raises, growth strategies, planning, and execution. As managing partner, Chris leads the company’s growth and expansion with AVL having served over 250 high growth companies in over 15 states and internationally. He is focused on building and developing a team of outstanding professionals, crafting a unique and engaging culture in our space, and contributing to the entrepreneurial ecosystems in our target markets.

Prior to founding AVL, Chris, an entrepreneur himself, was a “first five employee” and CFO for several angel and venture backed start-ups where he led multiple debt and equity transactions. He also owned, operated, and sold a multi-million dollar manufacturing company and has held various finance leadership roles at multiple corporations including StorageTek and Arthur Andersen (Audit and Business Consulting practices).

Heralding from Wisconsin, Chris obtained dual bachelor degrees in both Accounting and Finance from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and later earned his MBA from the University of Michigan where he was awarded a full ride Dean’s List Scholarship.

Bethany Parker

Bethany Parker joined the AVL team in 2020 as the Chief Operations Officer. In her role, she is responsible for bringing together the vision, strategy, operational framework, and team to drive client success and support AVL’s long-term growth goals.

She attended college at the University of New Hampshire, Whittemore School of Business and Economics, and the University of Colorado. Before AVL, Bethany worked for twenty years in various leadership roles for high growth companies in the financial services and technology space, including SquareTwo Financial and Xero.

In 2016, Bethany won the Best In Biz International Executive of the Year Silver Award. She was Denver Business Journal’s 40 under 40 nominee and featured in a Denver Business Journal Executive Voice series. Bethany authored several articles featured in the Forbes Finance Council on diversity and inclusiveness, hiring for impact, operational excellence, and best practices for leveraging technology. She is an activator with SheEO, a global community of radically generous women building a $1B perpetual fund to back women-led ventures.

Bethany currently lives in Denver with her husband, two children, and adorable Boston Terriers. She is a foodie, an avid fitness goer, enjoys spending time in the mountains with her family, and loves traveling and experiencing new destinations. She is passionate about giving back to the community and is an active volunteer with Food for Thought, which helps provide meals for children attending Title 1 schools in Denver.

Steffany Ayala

Steffany Ayala

Head of Finance and Business Operations

Prior to joining AVL, Steffany worked as a Senior Financial Reporting Accountant with an international civil engineering company (annual revenue – $1.5B). During her time there, she was the internal point-person for the external audit. She was able to reduce monthly reporting time by over ten hours through process improvement initiatives and automation of processes. Prior to that role, Steffany was a Cost Accountant with WhiteWave Foods (gross sales – $2.2B). In that role, she was responsible for reporting on monthly inventory balances in five company-owned plants, as well as 30+ co-packers with the parent and sister companies. She also spent two years with WhiteWave as a Trade Accounting Analyst in their Accounts Receivable department.

Steffany received her bachelor’s degree in Accounting (minor in Health Care Management) from Metropolitan State University of Colorado, and went on to become a Certified Public Accountant.

Jeremy joins AVL with over 15 years of experience helping scale Customer Success programs at a variety of fast-moving Silicon Valley tech companies such as Salesforce,  Yammer (acquired by Microsoft), BlueJeans (Acquired by Version) and PandaDoc.

 

Rich Frankenheimer

Partner

Rich Frankenheimer is a seasoned entrepreneur and CFO, with over 25 years of finance and operations experience. As a Partner in AVL Growth Partners, Rich has spent the past 6 years providing CFO services to over 40 high trajectory businesses, supporting 30+ rounds of equity/debt financings primarily in the technology, SaaS and manufacturing markets. Prior to joining AVL, Rich was the co-founder and Chief Financial Officer of touchPoint Partners, an angel capital funded impact marketing firm focused on Corporate Social Responsibility. Rich was also the CFO of SimAuthor Inc., a venture capital funded, software technology and services company, where he helped lead the company from start-up through successful acquisition. Rich co-founded and served as CFO for ClassiFACTS, Inc., a venture capital funded information technology company and has been the CFO/COO of several other early stage ventures.

Rich received a degree in Economics from the University of Colorado. He is a mentor at Galvanize, Boulder Impact Hub and Watson University and is an adviser and director on a number of for-profit and non-profit boards.

Dan joined the AVL team in 2022 as the Head of Growth. In this role, he is responsible for overseeing business development, lead generation, sales, and marketing to support AVL’s long-term growth goals, while helping clients achieve their objectives by working with the talented members of the AVL Growth Team.

Dan brings 20+ years of leadership experience from both large and start-up organizations. His career has been primarily focused on building new business units in mature companies, international teams, and new teams within start-up organizations. He has built and managed HR, Operations, Client Success & Support, and Sales teams throughout his career. For the past 8+ years, he has been primarily focused on working with start-ups to help them with scaling and growth.

Bethany has developed an expertise and specialty in understanding the importance of people and the effectual impact they make on the organizations they work with. At AVL Growth Partners, Bethany focuses on ensuring a quality, memorable experience from the first point of contact through the entire employee experience.

Over her career, Bethany has developed and managed talent acquisition strategies from the ground up. Drawing from her early experience as Sales and Marketing Leader and HR Talent Consultant, Bethany utilizes a multi-faceted approach to identifying talent. Her focus and intrigue has always stemmed from the confluence between behavioral psychology, data, and organizational development in order to strategically build the most successful and motivated working communities. 

She is passionate about people and finding innovative ways to support the professional goals of her peers and the organizations she represents. Her experience in dynamic, growing startup environments provides her with a great lens towards finding incomparable talent to work with AVL and our high-growth clients alike. 



Joe Gish

Joe joins AVL in Business Development having spent his career pursuing new, challenging roles ranging from Controller, Filmmaker, and Account Manager to Client Success, Purchasing and Logistics Management in CPG for a startup. It was in his last role where he had his first encounter with AVL, and witnessed first hand AVL's Full Stack Offering give full transparency, a clear financial strategy and optimized best practices for the entire organization in a matter of months.

Joe's passion for helping people drew him to AVL, where his efforts can help clients focus on doing what they do best by taking what AVL does better than anyone off their plate: Accounting. 

When he isn't connecting with people at AVL, Joe loves to spend his time playing hockey, reading, traveling with his fiancee, ideating with his friends or spending as much time as possible vanishing into the vast outdoors with his backpack, fly rod or bow.

Sasha Lee

Controller

Sasha Lee is the Controller  at AVL Growth Partners, with a passion for helping businesses grow. She joins the team with five years of finance and accounting experience focusing on SaaS, manufacturing, and fund services. Most recently, she helped business leaders at the cloud-based accounting software company Xero by developing annual budgets, driving the monthly P&L review process, and performing financial analysis. Before Xero, Sasha provided accounting services to a food and beverage kiosk manufacturer, served as a finance and operations manager at a start-up software company, and worked in fund administration at a financial services and bank holding corporation.

 

Prior to her career in finance and accounting, Sasha spent seven years working as a project manager in the environmental industry. She received her bachelor’s degree in finance from Rutgers University, graduating summa cum laude. In her free time, she enjoys attending concerts at Red Rocks, traveling to new places, practicing yoga, and attempting to ski.

Kristy Gibbs started off her career as a Probation Case Manager for a private probation company.  She soon moved into the role of Director Of Human Resources and assisted the company in growing in size from 20 employees to over 150. During the course of her employment she aided in coordination of opening offices and hiring of employees in 7 additional states.  Kristy served as the Finance Manager for the probation company during her last few years of employment.  

 

Kristy received her Bachelor's Degree in Law Enforcement and Justice Administration from Western Illinois University.  She relocated to Fort Collins from Iowa to finish up her final semester with a full time internship and decided to make Colorado her home. In her spare time, Kristy enjoys playing tennis, baking, and hanging out with her daughter.

Tori Adams, financial strengths include over 15 years in the CPG industry in executive leadership roles. Responsible for the financial performance of some of the world’s largest iconic brands such Olympus medical and industrial equipment, Red Bull energy drinks, Bona floor cleaners. Strong financial acumen to grow top line revenue, protect margins, and streamline operational expenses are primary focuses to increase contribution to profit with even the most intricate P&L, manufacturing, and overhead complexities. The best part of being apart of executive leadership team is growing and developing dynamic and passionate teams.

Tori Adams began her career by joining the United States Marines Corps serving 6 years in a fixed-wing unit VMA 214 Black Sheep. She earned her Bachelor’s degree majoring in Finance and Master’s degree in Business Administration from Northern Arizona University. She also graduated Magna Cum Laude with her Doctorate, PhD in Business Administration and Organizational Management from Northcentral University. In her free time, she enjoys traveling and volunteering at a horse rescue.

Jennifer Aichele

Prior to joining AVL Growth, Jennifer spent over 18 years providing interim CFO services in both Denver and Silicon Valley.  Jennifer started her career in Financial Planning & Analysis at TCI, AT&T Broadband and Comcast running long range strategy, planning, analysis and budget and was instrumental in the financial integration during the AT&T/Media One merger.

As a CFO, Jennifer has worked with clients in a wide range of industries including SAAS, BioTech, Shared Economy, CPG and Telecom.  She has worked with over 40 start-ups and helping to raise over $500M in equity and debt financing from Seed round to Series C/D. She has managed Finance, Accounting, HR, Legal and IT with extensive experience in strategy, planning and operations.

Jennifer received her Bachelor’s degree in Finance from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, CA and her Master’s degree in Finance from the University of Colorado, Denver.  Jennifer also holds an inactive, non-attest California CPA license. Jennifer is an active member of the Denver Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Pi, a coed professional business fraternity.  Jennifer served as a trustee of the Delta Sigma Pi Leadership Foundation raising funds for scholarships and grants and servicing as chair of the audit committee. 

When she’s not working with clients, she will most likely be traveling the globe.  Jennifer loves the outdoors especially if she can be on the water:  Swimming, kayaking, rafting, sailing.  She is an avid scuba diver with over 100 dives on 4 different continents.

Jennifer loves to coach and mentor young entrepreneurs.  She has been involved with incubator programs at Astia, Cal Poly Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and SAGE Innosphere.

Jordan Benjamin

For the last 18 years, Jordan has partnered with entrepreneurs and companies seeing them through the ideation phase into established businesses with growth plans fueled by multiple financing rounds. As a CFO Jordan brings his expertise to executive teams by ensuring organizational coherence across Finance, Fundraising, Investor Relations, Legal, Human Resources, and Operations—all of which he’s comfortable in playing a leadership role. 

Prior to joining AVL, Jordan honed his financial acumen as a hedge fund analyst and portfolio manager with $500 million of assets under management. To fulfill his entrepreneurial and creative spirit he later moved to Vermont to co-found a beverage start-up that grew into a 65,000 sqft manufacturing facility with national distribution. 

Jordan took a hiatus from the beverage company to attend law school where he specialized in business and transactional law. He rejoined as the CFO and General Counsel, spearheading multiple rounds of convertible debt, Reg. D private placement offerings, and securing royalty and debt financing.  

Upon moving to Colorado, Jordan joined a manufacturing start-up producing wood alternatives for the construction industry. As CFO Jordan helped raise $40+ million in Series A and B rounds and worked with the founders to build the organizational foundation to support a workforce of 200+ employees. In the last few years, Jordan has transitioned into a fractional CFO role where he has gained additional experience in smart-connected medical devices and plastics manufacturing. 

Jordan earned a bachelor’s degree in economics-finance from Bentley University, a J.D. degree from Vermont Law School, and completed level I of the Chartered Financial Analyst exam. He is a licensed attorney in the state of Vermont. 

Jordan finds balance through meditation and gets his adrenaline rush through kitesurfing, mountain biking, and skiing. 



Andy Donaldson

Andy is a corporate finance professional with 20+ years’ experience across executive management, investment banking, and consulting.  As a CFO, Andy focuses on working with lower middle market and start-up companies to develop financial and accounting systems that bring visibility into operating performance and enable sustainable growth.  He works in a variety of industries including manufacturing, consumer product goods, commercial real estate, tech-enabled services, and health care services.

Previously, Andy was the Vice President of FP&A for Black Creek Capital Diversified Property Fund, a public reporting real estate investment trust based in Denver, CO.  Prior to that, he was a Vice President in the Investment Banking division of Citigroup, where he advised on over $25 billion of public/private debt, equity, and M&A transactions for the bank’s institutional commercial real estate clients.  Andy began his career as a management consultant for KPMG.

Andy holds an MBA in Finance and Accounting from the Kellogg School of Management and a BA in Economics from Georgetown University.

Michael Gracie

Prior to joining AVL Growth, Michael spent nearly two decades providing interim CFO, COO and advisory services to clients across a wide swathe of industries and company life cycles.  He is very comfortable working in situations ranging from fledgling SAAS startups to potentially insolvent heavy manufacturers, applying tactics including debt and equity financings/refinancings, ERP, CRM and business intelligence systems implementations, and constructing financial forecasts, always with an underlying focus on consensus gathering and common-sense communication.  While his engagements have usually begun with specific agreed-upon procedures such as consolidating financial statements, clients have always been keen to extend his involvement further into the financial and operational aspects of their businesses, often re-engaging for many years after initial work has been successfully completed.

Michael began his career in the restructuring and reorganization practice of a Big 6 accounting firm.  He went on to work for several private-equity backed companies in CFO, COO and/or SVP Finance/Ops roles, with his efforts resulting in capital infusions in the eight digits and internal rates of return for investors of over 500%.  Across the work spectrum he has been regarded as extremely "hands-on", known to participate in software developer pow-wows, walk manufacturing plant floors while intently observing bin stock levels, and even taking on retail sales work interfacing directly with customers.  The end result is deep-value understanding of the entire business.

Michael earned a Bachelor's degree in Accounting from the University of Florida, and CPA certification from the State of Illinois.  Additionally, during prior work in financial services he simultaneously held Series 3, 7, 24, 27, 30 and 66 regulatory licenses, with a pristine compliance history.  When not at work Michael can be found outdoors, usually with a fishing rod in hand.  He is at ease teaching both spreadsheet modeling and fly-casting, and loves doing so.



Sharon Kincl

Sharon Kincl has over 25 years of strategic and tactical experience as a CFO for high growth pioneering technology companies. Prior to AVL, Sharon was the CFO of GroupSystems Corporation, a SaaS company providing process automation to facilitate global ERP implementations. In her role there, she was key to a successful turnaround during high growth while obtaining funding to facilitate further growth. Before that she was the CFO of Socialware, Inc., an industry leading SaaS based provider to highly regulated industries. Socialware was sold to Proofpoint, Inc.

Prior to that, she was the CFO of Vico Software, Inc., an international SaaS company leading the 5D virtual construction building information management industry. Vico was sold to Trimble Navigation Systems, Inc. Additionally, Sharon has been the senior financial executive to various other SaaS technology companies including Intelliquest Information Group where she was integral to a successful IPO. Sharon began her career as an auditor at KPMG.

She earned her bachelor of Science degree in Accounting at Southwestern University in Texas.

Anne Kreider

Anne Kreider is an experienced finance and operations executive, with a focus on leading and supporting early stage, high growth companies through change. Anne has considerable experience in strategic and financial planning, developing and launching scalable operations, financial accounting and reporting, developing KPIs to support growth, capital and debt raises, and investor exits. During her seven years at AVL Growth Partners, Anne has served companies primarily in the software, high tech and professional services spaces.

Prior to joining AVL, Anne was the Chief Financial Officer for a small commercial real estate firm and before that she spent five years with OpenTV, an international software company in the digital TV space, where she served as the Americas Controller and later as the Senior Director of the Program Management Office where she oversaw the financial and operational management of the company’s software development projects. Anne was also a Finance Manager at the McGraw-Hill Companies and held various financial roles at Qwest Communications. She started her career as an auditor for Arthur Andersen. Anne holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Virginia Tech and an inactive CPA license with the state of Virginia.

Pasquale Maturo

Pasquale Maturo has over 25 years of financial experience in the restaurant and technology sectors. Most recently he was a COO and CFO consultant for two restaurant chains with institutional investments. Prior to consulting, he was CFO of Briggo, Inc., a venture capital backed robotic technology start-up out of Austin, Texas. He was part of the senior leadership team managing human resources, accounting, finance, and legal and left after the successful sale of the company to Coca-Cola in 2020.

Prior to that he was CFO of Macaroni Grill a $190M revenue company which had over 130 retail locations, managing accounting, finance, legal, and IT departments. His restaurant career began at Quiznos in finance, strategy, and supply chain roles, and subsequently worked at Einstein Noah Restaurant Group in corporate finance before joining Macaroni Grill.

His early career includes roles at DuPont in mechanical engineering, Royal Caribbean International in revenue management, and Qwest in financial planning and analysis.

Pasquale earned his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (honors) from the University of Florida and his Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Colorado. He lives in Denver with his wife and three children and enjoys travel, hiking, and anything Italian.

Karyn Miller

Managing CFO

Karyn Miller is an experienced finance executive with a passion for supporting start-ups and high growth companies. Karyn’s experience includes establishing the financial foundation necessary for companies to achieve profitable and sustainable growth, hiring and leading high-functioning finance teams, establishing key business and financial metrics as well as the reporting required to manage those metrics, managing tax planning and compliance, establishing and leading the People and Office Administrative teams, supporting on capital and debt raises, and leading a successful exit of a Denver-based start-up. Karyn also has extensive experience establishing relationships with external stakeholders including boards of directors, current and potential investors, bankers, and auditors.

Prior to joining AVL, Karyn worked as a fractional CFO through her own business. As a fractional CFO, Karyn supported a variety of early stage clients in the SAAS, enterprise software, ecommerce, design and build, and technology industries. Prior to working as a fractional CFO, Karyn was the Chief Financial Officer of Craftsy, a Denver-based start-up that provides online instructional courses and physical products for passionate enthusiasts who love to learn and make. As part of the Craftsy executive team, Karyn established and led the company’s Financial, People and Office Administrative teams as the company grew from 20 FTE’s to over 200, she participated in the Company’s Series C and Series D raises, and she led the due diligence team when the Company was purchased by NBC/Universal in 2017.

Karyn received her Bachelor’s of Science and Masters in Accounting degrees from the University of Florida.

Karyn lives full-time in her RV with her husband and two cats. You can find Karyn watching Gator and SEC football on any fall Saturday or training for a half-marathon, hiking or biking.

Jennifer Pearce is a seasoned financial executive with 20 years of experience as a CFO for small to mid-market companies. Jennifer’s primary industry focus has been software and high tech. Jennifer also has brought her skills to consumer products, service businesses and higher education. Jennifer has experience leading Finance, Human Resources, Legal and IT teams. Jennifer brings to the organizations she leads an expertise in Finance combined with a talent for partnering with leadership teams to optimize processes and organizational behavior across all functions. Prior to moving into a CFO role, Jennifer began her career as a Financial Controller for 9 years with Oracle Corporation.

Jennifer received her Masters Degree in Business Administration from the Darden School at the University of Virginia and her Bachelor of Science degree in Business, majoring in Finance and Organizational Behavior, from the University of Colorado, Boulder. Jennifer completed the MIT Sloan School Executive Education program for CFO’s Driving Leadership and Growth. Jennifer has two children and competes in triathlons and trail running races.

Chris has over 20 years experience helping start-ups and mid-market companies grow and build value. He has considerable experience in business planning, process improvement and increasing financial performance. Prior to AVL, Chris held executive management roles for Customer Insight Company and Transworld Technologies Inc. As a former COO and CFO, Chris has raised in excess of $15 million for early stage companies and business ventures.

Chris was also CEO of FRx Software Corporation, a Microsoft subsidiary. FRx was a leading provider of financial reporting and business intelligence applications for the mid-market. Chris led the company through significant revenue and profitability growth; culminating in the sale to Great Plains Software (Microsoft) for $75 million.

Today at AVL Growth Partners, Chris works with fast growing entrepreneurial businesses needing CFO expertise to raise capital and build scalable financial processes. His current list of clients span a wide range of industries including: software (SaaS), IT consulting, aerospace engineering and international PEO services.

Chris is a licensed CPA and member of the Colorado Society of CPAs and American Institute of CPAs. He received his Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from the University of Colorado at Boulder and a Master’s in Finance from Colorado State University.

Michelle Shewchuk

Before joining AVL, Michelle was CFO for Inspirato, a $200M luxury hospitality and real estate company and CFO for Envysion, a SAAS based video analytics provider.

With over 30 years of finance, accounting and operations experience, Michelle has held various CFO and senior finance roles across a number of industries, including hospitality, software, biotech, real estate, investment banking and private equity. She has experience with start-ups, mid-size businesses and big, public companies. Michelle has worked closely with prominent venture capital and private equity firms, optimizing capital structures and providing strategic and financial decision making.

Michelle earned a MBA from Harvard Business School and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Alberta. She is married with two children and enjoys skiing, hiking, golf, cooking and reading.

JP Tremblay

JP Tremblay

Managing CFO

JP Tremblay has 25 years of experience in the finance industry including leadership
positions in corporate finance, financial services, asset and portfolio management, and
higher education. Most recently, JP was CFO of a fast-growing, venture-backed industrial
SaaS company. JP has a passion for optimizing business models and maximizing enterprise
value which he honed as an independent consultant for companies at various stages of
growth.


Previously, JP was CIO of Wealthnet Investments where he managed investment
portfolios for high-net-worth clients. JP was also Teaching Professor of Finance at the
Reiman School of Finance at the University of Denver where he taught investment
research and valuation, financial modeling, and risk management. He was founding
academic advisor to the Pioneer Venture Group, a student-led angel investment fund.


JP is a CFA Charterholder and former Board member of the Colorado CFA Society
and holds an MBA in International Management from the International University of the
Americas and BA in Finance from Laval University in Quebec, Canada. JP lives in Denver
with his wife and daughter, and loves cooking, skiing, trail running, and jazz music (he is
Board member of the Colorado Conservatory for the Jazz Arts).

Matt has over 18 years of hands-on accounting experience, and has a passion for helping small businesses succeed.  Before joining AVL his diverse work experience ranged from the finance department of a publically traded DOW Jones corporation, to being the sole accountant of a 12-person marketing agency startup.  After beginning his career in the large corporate finance environment, Matt decided to transition to accounting for small business.  Along the way he developed an enthusiasm for building small business accounting departments and financial systems from the ground up. He gets satisfaction from developing best-in-class financial processes and procedures.

Matt  is a CPA, and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Oral Roberts University.  Originally from Pennsylvania, he now resides in Austin, TX,  and enjoys exploring the Texas hill country with his wife and two dogs.

Ines Arroyave

Dallas

Ines has over five years of public and private accounting experience in various industries including oil & gas, insurance, investments, and banking. She has worked in various capacities including financial audit, internal audit, SOX testing, cash management, and financial reporting. Most recently, Ines worked as a compliance accounting manager for an insurance company which included filing regulatory state compliance filings, as well as quarterly/annual financial statement preparation and reporting. 

Ines has a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Texas at Dallas, a M.S. in Educational Psychology from the University of North Texas, and a M.S. in Accounting from The University of Texas at Dallas. 

She lives in Rockwall, Texas with her teenage daughter and two Australian Shepherds. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family, running, and spending hot Texas summers in the pool.

Jessica Colley

Jessica Colley is a Georgia native and just recently relocated to the Dallas, Texas area with her family. She has a Bachelors degree in Business Administration from the University of North Georgia and a Masters Degree in Accounting from Brenau University. Additionally, she is currently awaiting CPA licensure confirmation. She has over 16 years of experience in accounting and finance throughout several different industries including manufacturing, distribution, and oil. She has held various roles from senior accountant to Head of Finance. Prior to joining AVL, her previous responsibilities have included full-cycle accounting, AP/AR, financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting, cash management, human resources, payroll and benefits, legal compliance, and information technology.

Tara Davis

Austin

Tara Davis’ passion for bookkeeping started as a teenager working for Barefoot Iguana in West Austin.  Over the years, she developed a knack for solving puzzles and problems in accounting.  Tara has been a private client bookkeeper, personal assistant, and accountant in Austin, TX for over 20 years.  Tara has worked with General Contractor construction companies and Civil Engineers, law firms, Deliveries and Logistics, as well as new Restaurants.  Tara even owned a few coffee shop locations for a time.  She has a passion for start-up concepts, helping develop best practices and procedures for strategic growth and planning.


Tara earned her Bachelor of Arts with a Major in History from Texas State University.  As a native Austinite, she relocated to north Austin after her daughter graduated high school from Jack C. Hays in Buda.  When not slaying financial dragons, Tara can be found in the garden, in the kitchen, crocheting with her daughter, or hiking and skiing (depending on the season) with her father in New Mexico.

Before joining AVL Growth Partners, Iris gained valuable experience in several different accounting roles. She is a CPA with 8 years of experience. Iris started her audit career at Ernst & Young in Denver, and then worked in the private sector for publicly traded companies
including Chipotle Mexican Grill and CenturyLink. Most recently she was the Director of Accounting and People Operations for a blockchain/cryptocurrency startup. Iris has worked on a variety of accounting topics ranging from deferred rent to recognizing revenue and gain/loss entries from digital assets.

Iris received her Master of Accountancy from Colorado State University and enjoys spending
time with family and friends.

Ryan Freeman

Ryan joined AVL in 2021 with 5+ years of accounting experience in public and industry accounting. He has a wide range of experience working with venture backed growth stage clients in a variety of industries. Ryan leverages his experience with programming languages and understanding of accounting to automate away any inefficiencies that cost your organization time and money. He also has significant experience leading successful software and ERP implementations and strives to drive continuous improvement.
Ryan graduated from Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado and has passed all four CPA exams. He is originally from Southern California and has been living in Colorado since 2013. When not producing quality financials, Ryan’s other interests include backcountry skiing, mountaineering, hiking, and surfing.

Before joining AVL Growth Partners, Audrey Geisman started her career in accounting at an intellectual property law firm where she handled a variety of accounting tasks at the firm, including foreign associate payables and correspondence, account reconciliation, client invoicing, accounts receivable and other various management tasks.
After working at the law firm Audrey worked as an accountant for the State of Colorado Department of Natural Resources. In that position she managed over 200 federally funded grants. She was responsible for all billing, federal reporting, and federal compliance. She has a Bachelor of (Arts/Science) degree in Math Education from the University of Findlay in Ohio and a Master’s degree in Professional Accounting from Colorado State University Prior to her accounting career, Audrey spent several years as junior high school mathematics teacher. She is a fitness and weightlifting enthusiast, has several training certifications, and coaches and competes as a hobby. Audrey also enjoys all the outdoor activities Colorado has to offer, including hiking and snowshoeing.

Emma joined the AVL team with 7 years of progressive accounting and finance experience in the CPG industry, media and events, and government. Prior to AVL, she was the Finance Manager for a food manufacturing company and has almost exclusively worked within small management teams. She is a self-starter with exceptional organizational, analytical, entrepreneurial, and problem-solving skills. Emma has a continuous improvement mindset and always ready to take on the next challenge.

She received her Bachelor’s degree in Business from UNC Wilmington, concentrating in accounting. Most recently, she graduated with an MBA from CU Boulder and completed her CPA license. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, snowboarding, puzzling, and baking.

Jamie Gorman

Jamie joined AVL in 2022 with 20 plus years of experience. She began her career as an accountant in an accounting firm located in Oklahoma.   While during the time there she worked in many different departments before taking over as the Accounting Manager, Tax Manager and CFO role for the clients. After many years she stepped back and moved to Austin, where she worked for a business as their accountant and helped with the everyday operations. After a few years Jamie realized she missed working with multiple clients. She is passionate about helping small business grow. Her background is in Services, Oil and Gas, Retail and Ecommerce.


Jamie attended Oklahoma City University in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma where she obtained a bachelor’s and master’s degree in accounting. She lives in Austin with her family.   She loves attending Texas Longhorn sporting events with her family, traveling, amusement parks and being a soccer coach.

Prior to joining AVL, Krystal was working independently as a small business consultant. During this time, she realized a passion for working with small businesses. Krystal enjoys providing the financial details that enable informed decisions, guiding clients through process improvement and implementing automation systems. Krystal’s 10 years of industry experience holds a variety, ranging from consumer goods, manufacturing, retail to services. Krystal considers herself a lifelong student of business, holding her MBA she loves being able to provide a wider-angle view on how a business functions and succeeds in an evolving market. 

In her free time, Krystal can be found exploring the Rocky Mountains by foot or dirtbike.

Lori joined the AVL team with over 18 years of experience in the full spectrum of accounting and business operations in various industries.  She is a collaborative team player with an ownership mentality.  She enjoys helping develop and implement systems and processes that allow companies to run successfully and efficiently.  She received her bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Southern Connecticut State University, where she graduated summa cum laude as the highest-ranking member of her graduating class and is a Certified Public Accountant.  

Lori believes in giving back and is currently volunteering as a court appointed special advocate for CASA of Travis County.  In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, working out “CrossFit” style, camping, and spending time outdoors.

Terri Hopkins

Terri has a BS in Accounting from University of Phoenix (Dallas TX) and a MS in Accounting and Financial Management from Keller Graduate School of Management (Richardson TX). She has over 15 years of experience in accounting with a strong background in analytics as well. Her accounting background was in the insurance industry which also included analyzing a lot of data for government programs. She is organized and dedicated and is adept at task completion. Terri is a CPA candidate. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, visiting with friends and family, and trying different restaurants.

Hanan has been working in the accounting and finance field for almost 15 years in different countries gaining a wide variety of experience. Before joining AVL growth partners, Hanan spent 7 years in Egypt, 3 years in Emirates and 5 years in Minnesota providing accounting services and exploring several tax laws and regulations, commuting different positions from being a financial director in start-up companies to becoming a district accounting manager in well-established multinational companies. Her passion about accounting and finance drove her to study and get certified as a certified management accountant – CMA and also Master of business administration – MBA.

Rheanna joins AVL with over 10 years of accounting experience in the mortgage services industry. Most recently, Rheanna was an Assistant Controller, overseeing the Accounts Payable and Receivable teams, and working closely with the GL team to close the month for financial reporting. Rheanna is a self-starter who is dedicated, detail-oriented and ready to jump in where she can. In her free time, Rheanna enjoys spending time with her family outdoors, reading and cooking.

Prior to joining AVL Growth Partners he was director at Platts, McGraw Hill managing the finances for a $125M business unit. Simon enjoys rolling up his sleeves and managing the accounting function while providing business partners with reliable intelligence to make strategic decisions and drive profitability.

Simon received a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Auckland and is a CPA / Chartered Accountant (NZICA). Originally from New Zealand he loves the outdoors, climbing, biking and skiing.

Payton joined AVL in 2022 after 7+ years in the multi client consulting space. He started his career in public accounting with a focus on venture backed, high growth, companies in the CPG and Tech/ SaaS space. While during his time in public accounting, Payton became a licensed CPA in the state of Colorado in 2019. After public accounting life, Payton launched his own consulting accounting and finance practice, as well as worked full time providing fractional controller work for an established firm. His focus and passion has always lied in the CPG and Tech/ SaaS space, and that is where his continued industry focus lies with AVL.    

Payton attended Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado where he obtained degrees in both Accounting and Sustainable Agriculture. Payton met his wife Ashley in Durango and they have since relocated to Nederland, Colorado where they enjoy all of the fun things the mountains bring - mountain biking, hiking with their husky Leo, backpacking, camping, and fishing.

Brian Martinez

Brian has over 20 years of accounting and operations experience supporting small, high-tech government contracting firms. During his career he has served on senior management teams and contributed to multiple business strategies as well as the lead the finance and accounting operations.  Brian has a passion for growing small and emerging companies and has a clear focus on systems and process to shorten the gap of operational performance to financial analysis and operational adjustments. Brian received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Adams State University in Southern Colorado. He loves to geek out on Excel, and when he is not working he might be writing macros to sort recipes or baseball stats. He also enjoys cooking bar-b-que, traveling with his wife (and sometimes the kids), golf, and everything outdoors.

Kelly has 20 years of accounting and operations experience, supporting small and growing businesses in numerous industries including Renewable Energy, Non-profits, Real Estate and CPG.  She most recently served as a consultant providing full-cycle accounting services and financial reporting to multiple clients for management and board review.  She also collaborated with executive management to create and refine solid accounting processes tailored to the specialized business model of each client.

 

Prior to consulting, Kelly was the controller for a $100M real estate investment firm, overseeing all financial reporting, investment and tax matters.  She also helped found a startup in the solar energy industry, creating the financial reporting structure and system of internal controls, developing reliable cash flow projections for investor presentations, and implementing an inventory control system, including planning and COGS reporting.

 

Kelly is originally from Michigan and obtained her bachelor's degree in accounting from Grand Valley State University.  She relocated from Los Angeles to the Boulder area with her husband and two daughters and loves everything that Colorado has to offer.

Brad has over 15 years of experience in accounting and has worked in a variety of industries including: Construction, Manufacturing, Hospitality and CPG. Most recently, Brad serves as the Vice President of Finance for Teatulia Organic Teas responsible for overseeing all accounting functions and processes including financial planning and analysis, financial statement preparation, cash flow management, preparing board presentations and inventory build/cost management. His past 9 years have been spent in the CPG industry. 

Prior to that, Brad oversaw the accounting functions for over 100 restaurants preparing, analyzing and reviewing the accuracy of weekly financial statements and training owners/management how to analyze financials in order to make better business decisions. 

Brad received a BS in Accounting from CU-Denver and shortly after received his Masters in Business Administration. He enjoys spending time with his wife and 2 boys, playing basketball and good Tequila.

She began her accounting career with Ernst & Young and served in both audit and tax functions. After receiving her MBA she worked in financial consulting, serving fortune 500 clients. Since leaving consulting she has served in the lead financial position for several small to mid-market companies with worldwide operations. Susan has assisted companies in raising debt and equity, merger integrations, IPO’s, annual operating plans, financial models, budget s& forecasts, foreign currency hedges, and process improvement. She has also overseen the supply chain and inventory management, human resources, legal, audit and risk management functions in the organizations she has served,

Erin Peabody

Erin joins AVL Growth Partners with over 24 years of combined experience in public accounting and in controller roles in private industry.  She began her career as an auditor in public accounting at regional firms in metro New York, Buffalo, and Austin, focusing on small- and medium-sized, privately held companies. After too many hectic years of busy seasons and frequent travel, she made the jump to private industry at a software startup.  Over 6 years, she worked her way from accounting manager to controller, leaving after the acquisition of that startup by a private equity firm.  From there, she led finance teams at Austin software, advertising, insurance, and manufacturing companies.   

After years in these internal roles, Erin realized that she missed working directly with clients.  She gets energized from helping businesses solve accounting challenges and interpreting the numbers to tell the story of what’s going on with the business.  She has a passion for small business and enjoys getting to know her clients on both a personal and professional level rather than simply filling a role.

Erin is originally from upstate New York, holds a bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York at Geneseo, and is a CPA licensed in Texas.  She lives in Austin with her husband and 3 rescue dogs.  She has a passion for animal rescue and has fostered over 50 dogs in 10+ years.  She has an extensive sports card collection and goes to MLB and NBA games, enjoys concerts (especially The National), and has enthusiasm for wine, beer, and pizza.

Erin Perry

Erin found her calling to finance and accounting in 2013 after leaving her CPG marketing job in Chicago and moving to Colorado. With five years of strategic customer planning and pricing analysis, she went back to school to earn her additional qualifications for her CPA and was awarded her license in Illinois in 2017 and her Colorado license in 2019. While attending school, she maintained accounting positions in the non-profit and 3PL warehousing space. In 2019, Erin left her controllership position to head her own CPA consulting firm servicing clients in construction, property management, non-profit, private equity and family offices. She joined AVL in 2021 to continue to pursue her passion to help businesses navigate the constantly evolving technology and accounting processes and finding the best solutions for each client.

Erin holds a BA in International Business with an emphasis on Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management from Illinois State University. Erin and her family live in Eagle, CO where they enjoy the small-town mountain lifestyle. When they are not traveling to see family in Iowa and Illinois, the Perry’s are exploring new places across the world every chance they get. Erin is also the board president of the Colorado Mountain College Accounting Advisory Board.

Jon is a highly seasoned financial analyst, accountant and retail leader with over 25 years of experience within the natural foods and CPG industries. Combining a powerful trifecta of financial business acumen, retail operational experience and collaborative consultation, Jon loves driving high returns through value added financial services and consultation. Prior to joining AVL he spent the majority of his career at Amazon | Whole Foods Market as a leader in financial operations where he helped to drive unprecedented growth and profitability within the industry. Jon spent the last 2 years forecasting over $1B in annual operational expenses for over 500 entities. In 2020, following his passion for a new challenge, he shifted out of the corporate world over to fractional financial consultative services. 

Jon moved to Colorado 20 years ago from Dallas, TX where he earned degrees in Business Accounting / Finance and Computer Science. When not working he enjoys cooking, fishing and running with his highly energetic labrador Tucker.

Mike Sherman

Mike joins AVL Growth Partners with over 20 year of accounting and operations experience.  Coming from an agricultural and manufacturing background when he moved to Denver from Michigan, where he graduated from Kettering University.  He stayed true to his roots and began working with manufacturing companies.  He likes to dig in and understand what is the driving force behind the numbers and why.  Looking at companies from both the top down and the bottom up.  Understanding what is needed by executives/owners to make sound business decisions and also making sure those entering the data understand it’s importance as it is entered to the accounting system.  

Mike has led several system implementations, working both with the end users and IT staff to make a smooth transition.  He is passionate about finding ways to improve processes that not only to increase efficiencies and reduce cost but maximize systems for company growth without having to increase headcount.  From running a manufacturing facility in China to helping a hemp/CBD startup company to supporting well established companies still wanting to be better.  Mike has helped companies reduce month end/year end close and audits processes and improved overall business operations by implementing control and procedures.  Developing financial packages and creating budgets/forecasts are several of the tasks Mike enjoys jumping into with each company.

Mike spends his free time with his wife and kids and their family of furry friends taking advantage of the outdoors.

Rick is a CPA with over 7 years’ experience in accounting and finance. Prior to joining AVL, he worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers, originally joining their Auditing group and later transitioning into their M&A practice. Throughout his experience, Rick has worked with clients from a wide variety of industries such as Saas, Real Estate, Healthcare, Retail, Private Equity, Banking, Communications and more. Rick has a strong passion for entrepreneurship, problem solving, and helping small businesses succeed.

Rick graduated with a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the Pennsylvania State University, with a minor in International Business. In his free time, he enjoys traveling and spending time with family and friends.

Michelle Simpkins

Michelle comes to AVL Growth with over 13 years of accounting and operations experience, supporting a variety of industries.  Most recently, she served as a consultant providing high-level accounting services and financial reporting for multiple small business clients.  She loves improving efficiency and accuracy, while building a strong foundation.

Prior to consulting, Michelle was the controller for five-location, $30M healthcare organization, overseeing the financial, accounting, and contractual aspects of the main practice, as well as the research facility, outside physician contracts, and three real estate holding companies.

She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from San Jose State University, graduating summa cum laude.  Michelle relocated to the Denver area two years ago with her husband and daughter, and enjoys exploring Colorado’s beautiful hiking trails, gardening and photography.

He has a Bachelor of (Arts/Science) degree in Accounting from the University of Houston. Prior to his accounting career, Chris spent many years working in the restaurant industry. Tiffanny is a successful finance and accounting professional with 20 years experience delivering quality analysis and reporting to executive management. Prior to joining AVL, Tiffanny was the Senior Finance Manager at Nagra, a division of the Kudelski Group which is a global leader in digital security and convergent media solutions for delivery of digital and interactive content. Its technologies are used in a wide range of services and applications requiring access control and rights management and specializes in integrated Digital Television, Public Access, Cyber Security and Internet of Things. She oversaw financial planning and analysis for the Digital Television R&D product unit and management of the company-wide project creation and reporting tools. Tiffanny also served as Controller at Takonka Oil & Gas, Inc. and as Senior Financial Analysist (Revenue Manager) at the McGraw-Hill Companies.

Tiffanny received a BS in Accounting from Regis University and loves spending time with family and friends seeing the world and enjoying the food it has to offer.
