Chris Schwalbach founded AVL Growth Partners in 2009 with the goal of addressing the lack of finance & accounting operations expertise available to passionate entrepreneurs, with a vision to bring the same level of expertise, passion, and focus as Cooley, LLP did in legal services and Silicon Valley Bank did in banking. Chris has helped numerous AVL client companies including SaaS, Medical Device, Services, and Digital Media with setup, capital raises, growth strategies, planning, and execution. As managing partner, Chris leads the company’s growth and expansion with AVL having served over 250 high growth companies in over 15 states and internationally. He is focused on building and developing a team of outstanding professionals, crafting a unique and engaging culture in our space, and contributing to the entrepreneurial ecosystems in our target markets.

Prior to founding AVL, Chris, an entrepreneur himself, was a “first five employee” and CFO for several angel and venture backed start-ups where he led multiple debt and equity transactions. He also owned, operated, and sold a multi-million dollar manufacturing company and has held various finance leadership roles at multiple corporations including StorageTek and Arthur Andersen (Audit and Business Consulting practices).

Heralding from Wisconsin, Chris obtained dual bachelor degrees in both Accounting and Finance from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and later earned his MBA from the University of Michigan where he was awarded a full ride Dean’s List Scholarship.

Rich Frankenheimer

Rich Frankenheimer is a seasoned entrepreneur and CFO, with over 25 years of finance and operations experience. As a Partner in AVL Growth Partners, Rich has spent the past 6 years providing CFO services to over 40 high trajectory businesses, supporting 30+ rounds of equity/debt financings primarily in the technology, SaaS and manufacturing markets. Prior to joining AVL, Rich was the co-founder and Chief Financial Officer of touchPoint Partners, an angel capital funded impact marketing firm focused on Corporate Social Responsibility. Rich was also the CFO of SimAuthor Inc., a venture capital funded, software technology and services company, where he helped lead the company from start-up through successful acquisition. Rich co-founded and served as CFO for ClassiFACTS, Inc., a venture capital funded information technology company and has been the CFO/COO of several other early stage ventures.

Rich received a degree in Economics from the University of Colorado. He is a mentor at Galvanize, Boulder Impact Hub and Watson University and is an adviser and director on a number of for-profit and non-profit boards.

Bethany Parker

Chief Operations Officer

Bethany Parker joined the AVL team in 2020 as the Chief Operations Officer. In her role, she is responsible for bringing together the vision, strategy, operational framework, and team to drive client success and support AVL’s long-term growth goals.

She attended college at the University of New Hampshire, Whittemore School of Business and Economics, and the University of Colorado. Before AVL, Bethany worked for twenty years in various leadership roles for high growth companies in the financial services and technology space, including SquareTwo Financial and Xero.

In 2016, Bethany won the Best In Biz International Executive of the Year Silver Award. She was Denver Business Journal’s 40 under 40 nominee and featured in a Denver Business Journal Executive Voice series. Bethany authored several articles featured in the Forbes Finance Council on diversity and inclusiveness, hiring for impact, operational excellence, and best practices for leveraging technology. She is an activator with SheEO, a global community of radically generous women building a $1B perpetual fund to back women-led ventures.

Bethany currently lives in Denver with her husband, two children, and adorable Boston Terriers. She is a foodie, an avid fitness goer, enjoys spending time in the mountains with her family, and loves traveling and experiencing new destinations. She is passionate about giving back to the community and is an active volunteer with Food for Thought, which helps provide meals for children attending Title 1 schools in Denver.

Roman Villard

Roman Villard

Director of Business Development

Roman Villard has spent 7 years working in an audit capacity for regional public accounting firms in Dallas and Denver, focusing on middle-market private equity backed companies. Prior to joining AVL, Roman assisted with the growth of a local financial consulting firm in a business development role.

Roman has worked with pre-revenue tech companies up to Fortune 500’s in varying roles. Roman was responsible for managing financial audits and ensuring the collaboration between the audit team, internal resources, and the client. Roman is passionate about using his CPA license more relationally and enjoys spending time in conversations about scaling businesses, increasing internal efficiencies, and connecting others to the help they need.

Roman is an active Colorado CPA and received a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance from Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas. Having lived in 7 states and parents from France and Alaska, Roman has had an array of exposure across the globe. When away from the office, you can find Roman fly fishing on Colorado streams, hunting for birdies on the golf course, or carving up a mountain on his skis.

Steffany Ayala

Steffany Ayala

Head of Finance and Business Operations

Prior to joining AVL, Steffany worked as a Senior Financial Reporting Accountant with an international civil engineering company (annual revenue – $1.5B). During her time there, she was the internal point-person for the external audit. She was able to reduce monthly reporting time by over ten hours through process improvement initiatives and automation of processes. Prior to that role, Steffany was a Cost Accountant with WhiteWave Foods (gross sales – $2.2B). In that role, she was responsible for reporting on monthly inventory balances in five company-owned plants, as well as 30+ co-packers with the parent and sister companies. She also spent two years with WhiteWave as a Trade Accounting Analyst in their Accounts Receivable department.

Steffany received her bachelor’s degree in Accounting (minor in Health Care Management) from Metropolitan State University of Colorado, and went on to become a Certified Public Accountant.

VP of Finance

With over 20 years of public and industry accounting, Charles is an experienced financial leader with extensive knowledge in CPG companies. Prior to joining AVL, Charles served as Controller and Director of Finance for companies such as Seiko Instruments and Nike. He also served as CFO on multiple startups where he found his passion by helping companies raise capital, scale product line expansions, develop internal controls, and implement strategic growth initiatives.
Charles received a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of Texas at Austin and is a Certified Public Accountant. He began his career at Ernst & Young in Houston specializing in manufacturing and energy audits.

Charles has lived in Austin for over 25 years and is an avid outdoorsman and sports enthusiast. Charles was an outfielder for the University of Texas Longhorn baseball team.

Heidi Anderson

Heidi Anderson

Principal

Heidi Anderson is a seasoned entrepreneur and CFO, with over 20 years of finance and operations experience. As a Principal in AVL Growth Partners, Heidi provides CFO services to high trajectory businesses primarily in services, real estate, franchising and technology markets. Prior to joining AVL, Heidi was the CFO at Club Holdings, LLC and all subsidiaries, as well as the COO of their largest subsidiary, Quintess and was a co-founder and CFO of 10 til 2, a staffing business that grew over time until it was franchised in 10 states. Heidi also previously worked in the auditing and consulting groups at KPMG, LLLP and EKS&H, LLLP.

Heidi received a degree in Professional Accountancy from the Pennsylvania State University and has been a Colorado Certified Public Accountant for over 20 years. Heidi has served as Treasurer for a number of non-profit boards during her career including Sewall Child Development Center and The Chanda Plan Foundation.

Corey Bohler

Corey is an accomplished finance, accounting and operations executive with over 20 years of experience leading companies through periods of rapid change, high growth, and cash flow improvement. His industry experience includes Consumer Packaged Goods, Medical Devices, General Manufacturing and Financial Services and he is well versed in building relationships, leading teams, and driving strong bottom-line results. Throughout his career he has successfully led enterprise-wide financial process and improvement programs spanning the US, Europe, Asia, and Latin America.

As a CFO, Corey has extensive experience in strategic finance, pricing, profitability improvements, manufacturing, operations, new product development, and fundraising. Since joining AVL Growth Partners, Corey has completed multiple equity raise processes, netting over $50M in equity for his clients, and has led efforts to establish GAAP financial statements, implement reporting and KPI packages, optimize product line profitability and build scalable teams. Recent partner clients include: Maple Hill Creamery, Teton Waters Ranch, and Rowdy Mermaid Kombucha.

Corey is a graduate of the University of Colorado at Boulder with a BS in Business (Accounting & Finance) and is a Certified Management Accountant (CMA). He lives in Castle Rock, CO with his wife and daughter and enjoys cooking, trail running, fitness, downhill skiing, and travel.

Denise Cavaleri

Principal

Denise Cavaleri has 22 years of experience in Corporate Accounting and Financial Management. At AVL Growth Partners, Denise has spent the past 2 years providing VP of Finance services to over 12 high trajectory businesses, in various industries, including: wholesale, retail, software/hardware, SaaS, and cannabis. Prior to joining AVL, Mrs. Cavaleri held the position of Chief Financial Officer for GetAds and Native Rank. Her previous experience includes finance leadership roles at Only Natural Pet Store/NatPets, All Copy Products, and The Boppy Company.

Denise graduated from Regis University with a MBA in Accounting/Finance and Cornell College with a BA in Economics and International Business.

Michael Gracie

Michael Gracie

Principal

Prior to joining AVL Growth, Michael spent nearly two decades providing interim CFO, COO and advisory services to clients across a wide swathe of industries and company life cycles.  He is very comfortable working in situations ranging from fledgling SAAS startups to potentially insolvent heavy manufacturers, applying tactics including debt and equity financings/refinancings, ERP, CRM and business intelligence systems implementations, and constructing financial forecasts, always with an underlying focus on consensus gathering and common-sense communication.  While his engagements have usually begun with specific agreed-upon procedures such as consolidating financial statements, clients have always been keen to extend his involvement further into the financial and operational aspects of their businesses, often re-engaging for many years after initial work has been successfully completed.

 

Michael began his career in the restructuring and reorganization practice of a Big 6 accounting firm.  He went on to work for several private-equity backed companies in CFO, COO and/or SVP Finance/Ops roles, with his efforts resulting in capital infusions in the eight digits and internal rates of return for investors of over 500%.  Across the work spectrum he has been regarded as extremely "hands-on", known to participate in software developer pow-wows, walk manufacturing plant floors while intently observing bin stock levels, and even taking on retail sales work interfacing directly with customers.  The end result is deep-value understanding of the entire business.

 

Michael earned a Bachelor's degree in Accounting from the University of Florida, and CPA certification from the State of Illinois.  Additionally, during prior work in financial services he simultaneously held Series 3, 7, 24, 27, 30 and 66 regulatory licenses, with a pristine compliance history.  When not at work Michael can be found outdoors, usually with a fishing rod in hand.  He is at ease teaching both spreadsheet modeling and fly-casting, and loves doing so.



Jay Drezner

Jay Drezner is a seasoned financial and operating executive with over 20 years of professional experience. He offers a unique perspective given his combination of transactional and operational expertise across multiple industries including consumer products, media and telecom, industrials, real estate and mining. Prior to joining AVL, Jay was GM – International and Business Development at Vitaco, an Australasian manufacturer and marketer of vitamins, minerals and supplements (VMS), sports nutrition products and healthy foods. While at Vitaco, Jay turned around the International division, almost doubling revenue over three years. He was also responsible for managing corporate development, successfully completing two acquisitions, helping list the company on the Australian Stock Exchange and eventually selling the company to a Chinese Joint Venture. Prior to that, Jay was the CFO of Naturade, a California-based nutritional supplement wholesaler. At Naturade, Jay was responsible for all back-office operations including Finance, Legal, HR, IT, Production Planning as well as Marketing. Over the course of three years, Naturade grew its revenue substantially and became a profitable company that was sold to a private equity firm in a successful exit for its previous owners.

Before moving to the company side, Jay was a financial services professional in both investment banking (Credit Suisse) and at a hedge fund (Laurus Capital). At Credit Suisse, Jay gained an intimate knowledge of the major transactional products including equity-raising (both IPO and secondary), debt-raising (bank and bond) and M&A. At Laurus, Jay structured debt and equity investments in high-growth SME businesses.

Jay received his MBA from Columbia Business School and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Cornell University. He is a CFA charterholder and is also a CPA (Australia). He lives in Louisville with his Australian wife and two children.

Heidi Huntington

Heidi has over 17 years of experience in accounting and has worked with companies in various industries including: high tech start ups, software, venture capital, retail, manufacturing, telecommunications, nonprofit, professional services and the investment banking sector. Prior to joining AVL, Heidi was the Director of Virtual Business Solutions at Anton Collins Mitchell after merging her own accounting practice, founded in 2000, with ACM. Her practice provided small and midsized companies with full cycle accounting services, financial reporting metrics, human resources support, operations structures and best practice solutions. 


Since joining AVL Heidi supports 8 clients with KPI metrics and reporting, strategic modeling to support long term goals and other key initiatives, compensation and incentive planning, cash flow reporting and forecasting, revenue growth planning and debt and equity round support.

Heidi graduated from the University of Puget Sound with a degree in Accounting and Finance as well as an emphasis in communications. Philanthropy and community are an important part of Heidi’ life. She is also an avid runner, enjoys traveling, skiing and photography.

Sharon Kincl

Sharon Kincl

Principal

Sharon Kincl has over 25 years of strategic and tactical experience as a CFO for high growth pioneering technology companies. Prior to AVL, Sharon was the CFO of GroupSystems Corporation, a SaaS company providing process automation to facilitate global ERP implementations. In her role there, she was key to a successful turnaround during high growth while obtaining funding to facilitate further growth. Before that she was the CFO of Socialware, Inc., an industry leading SaaS based provider to highly regulated industries. Socialware was sold to Proofpoint, Inc.

Prior to that, she was the CFO of Vico Software, Inc., an international SaaS company leading the 5D virtual construction building information management industry. Vico was sold to Trimble Navigation Systems, Inc. Additionally, Sharon has been the senior financial executive to various other SaaS technology companies including Intelliquest Information Group where she was integral to a successful IPO. Sharon began her career as an auditor at KPMG.

She earned her bachelor of Science degree in Accounting at Southwestern University in Texas.

Anne Kreider

Anne Kreider

Principal

Anne Kreider is an experienced finance and operations executive, with a focus on leading and supporting early stage, high growth companies through change. Anne has considerable experience in strategic and financial planning, developing and launching scalable operations, financial accounting and reporting, developing KPIs to support growth, capital and debt raises, and investor exits. During her seven years at AVL Growth Partners, Anne has served companies primarily in the software, high tech and professional services spaces.

Prior to joining AVL, Anne was the Chief Financial Officer for a small commercial real estate firm and before that she spent five years with OpenTV, an international software company in the digital TV space, where she served as the Americas Controller and later as the Senior Director of the Program Management Office where she oversaw the financial and operational management of the company’s software development projects. Anne was also a Finance Manager at the McGraw-Hill Companies and held various financial roles at Qwest Communications. She started her career as an auditor for Arthur Andersen. Anne holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Virginia Tech and an inactive CPA license with the state of Virginia.

Simon Le Couteur

Simon started his career at Arthur Andersen and has since gained a broad range of experience working as controller for companies in technology, design, and marketing. Prior to joining AVL Growth Partners he was director at Platts, McGraw Hill managing the finances for a $125M business unit. Simon enjoys rolling up his sleeves and managing the accounting function while providing business partners with reliable intelligence to make strategic decisions and drive profitability.

Simon received a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Auckland and is a CPA / Chartered Accountant (NZICA). Originally from New Zealand he loves the outdoors, climbing, biking and skiing.

Bill Mark

Bill Mark

Principal

Bill is an experienced finance executive with experiences spanning multiple industries. While continuing to build on his Natural Products experience, he has also spent much of his time at AVL applying that same CPG experience to helping businesses in the cannabis industry build their companies in both, the cannabis-specific retail environment and in those businesses attempting to crossover into the more traditional retail channels. He’s helped those clients raise multiple rounds of capital, complete mergers and experience rapid growth.

Prior to joining AVL, Bill has spent the last 16 years working in finance in the Front Range Region in multiple industries including; residential and commercial real estate, e-commerce, retail and CPG manufacturing. He spent 3.5 years working for ProLogis in their private client fund group, managing distribution space portfolios in excess of $2B. Most recently he spent the better part of the last decade in the Boulder Natural Food Community, building and running finance/accounting functions multiple early stage companies, managing them through rapid early growth periods and multiple rounds of capital raising.

Bill lives in Boulder County with his wife and two young children. He has a B.S. in Finance from Virginia Tech and his MBA from The University of Colorado Leeds School of Business.

Karyn Miller

Principal

Karyn Miller is an experienced finance executive with a passion for supporting start-ups and high growth companies. Karyn’s experience includes establishing the financial foundation necessary for companies to achieve profitable and sustainable growth, hiring and leading high-functioning finance teams, establishing key business and financial metrics as well as the reporting required to manage those metrics, managing tax planning and compliance, establishing and leading the People and Office Administrative teams, supporting on capital and debt raises, and leading a successful exit of a Denver-based start-up. Karyn also has extensive experience establishing relationships with external stakeholders including boards of directors, current and potential investors, bankers, and auditors.

Prior to joining AVL, Karyn worked as a fractional CFO through her own business. As a fractional CFO, Karyn supported a variety of early stage clients in the SAAS, enterprise software, ecommerce, design and build, and technology industries. Prior to working as a fractional CFO, Karyn was the Chief Financial Officer of Craftsy, a Denver-based start-up that provides online instructional courses and physical products for passionate enthusiasts who love to learn and make. As part of the Craftsy executive team, Karyn established and led the company’s Financial, People and Office Administrative teams as the company grew from 20 FTE’s to over 200, she participated in the Company’s Series C and Series D raises, and she led the due diligence team when the Company was purchased by NBC/Universal in 2017.

Karyn received her Bachelor’s of Science and Masters in Accounting degrees from the University of Florida.

Karyn lives full-time in her RV with her husband and two cats. You can find Karyn watching Gator and SEC football on any fall Saturday or training for a half-marathon, hiking or biking.

Adam Muhleisen

Adam Muhleisen

VP of Finance

Adam Muhleisen is an experienced finance executive that specializes in leading and implementing successful financial and operating strategies for SaaS/Tech/Software private equity and venture backed companies. He has helped SaaS companies strategically grow, manage capital strategies, and build their finance infrastructures from the ground up. Prior to joining AVL, Adam spent 14 years in Corporate Finance. Most recently at high growth SaaS companies such as Four Winds Interactive and FullContact. Adam began his career at KPMG as an Auditor and obtained his CPA license before transitioning to Corporate Finance.

Adam is a graduate of Drake University, where he majored in Accounting and Finance, followed later by earning an MBA at Drake University.

Adam lives in Denver, CO with his wife and three kids. Adam enjoys skiing, golfing, and spending time with his family.

Jennifer Pearce

Jennifer Pearce is a seasoned financial executive with 20 years of experience as a CFO for small to mid-market companies. Jennifer’s primary industry focus has been software and high tech. Jennifer also has brought her skills to consumer products, service businesses and higher education. Jennifer has experience leading Finance, Human Resources, Legal and IT teams. Jennifer brings to the organizations she leads an expertise in Finance combined with a talent for partnering with leadership teams to optimize processes and organizational behavior across all functions. Prior to moving into a CFO role, Jennifer began her career as a Financial Controller for 9 years with Oracle Corporation.

Jennifer received her Masters Degree in Business Administration from the Darden School at the University of Virginia and her Bachelor of Science degree in Business, majoring in Finance and Organizational Behavior, from the University of Colorado, Boulder. Jennifer completed the MIT Sloan School Executive Education program for CFO’s Driving Leadership and Growth. Jennifer has two children and competes in triathlons and trail running races.

Amanda Pinelli

Amanda Pinelli

Principal

Amanda is an entrepreneurial spirited operator and finance professional. Prior to joining AVL she co-founded and serves as Managing Director of a pilot impact fund focused on regenerative business and progressive business models. Her work over the past few years has led her to strategic consulting for early stage companies focusing on structure, financial planning and general business plans. She has over 15 years of experience in consumer goods, holding COO/CFO roles in multinational companies
Amanda currently serves on the advisory board of Nomi Network, a non-profit providing vocational training to women who have been rescued from human trafficking and serves on the Board of Directors at VOZ Apparel, an ethical fashion brand working with indigenous weavers from Chile.

Amanda completed her undergrad at CU Boulder earning a degree in Finance, a second degree in Italian and a certificate of International business. Following adventures to Italy, she received a Masters in Fashion Marketing Management from the Istituto Europeo di Design. Recently in NYC she completed a C-suite Contemporary Finance Certificate at NYU.

Chris Scherpenseel

Chris has over 20 years experience helping start-ups and mid-market companies grow and build value. He has considerable experience in business planning, process improvement and increasing financial performance. Prior to AVL, Chris held executive management roles for Customer Insight Company and Transworld Technologies Inc. As a former COO and CFO, Chris has raised in excess of $15 million for early stage companies and business ventures.

Chris was also CEO of FRx Software Corporation, a Microsoft subsidiary. FRx was a leading provider of financial reporting and business intelligence applications for the mid-market. Chris led the company through significant revenue and profitability growth; culminating in the sale to Great Plains Software (Microsoft) for $75 million.

Today at AVL Growth Partners, Chris works with fast growing entrepreneurial businesses needing CFO expertise to raise capital and build scalable financial processes. His current list of clients span a wide range of industries including: software (SaaS), IT consulting, aerospace engineering and international PEO services.

Chris is a licensed CPA and member of the Colorado Society of CPAs and American Institute of CPAs. He received his Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from the University of Colorado at Boulder and a Master’s in Finance from Colorado State University.

Adam Smith

Principal

Adam Smith is a seasoned CFO and executive coach with over 20 years of experience. Adam began his career in investment banking at Credit Suisse where he assisted small and large companies with their IPOs, M&A, capital raises, and leveraged buyout needs. Adam has held numerous senior corporate finance and accounting positions at Intel, KPMG, IBM, and at small technology and manufacturing companies. Adam has been the CFO and Treasurer of Vante, a medical device manufacturer, and of Insala, a SaaS provider of mentoring, coaching, and alumni software to Fortune 500 companies.

Adam’s technical expertise includes financial strategy, reporting, modeling, forecasting, budgeting, pricing, valuation, new product launches, KPI dashboards, capital raising, and mergers and acquisitions.

Adam has a CPA, and earned his MBA and bachelor degrees in accounting and finance from the University of Arizona, where he was awarded Business Student of the Year.
Adam enjoys spending time with his wife of 22 years and four teenage sons, traveling, camping, and teaching. Adam has taught various finance and entrepreneurship courses at the University of Arizona and Portland State University, including Corporate Finance, Valuation, and Mindful Entrepreneurship.

Amy Thacker

Amy Thacker

VP of Finance

Amy is an experienced finance professional with over 10 years of experience spanning domestic and international markets, corporate and non-profit organizations. She has proven expertise in strategic planning, financial analysis, building KPI and performance metric tools, M&A, and international expansion for both early stage start-ups and large public companies. Prior to joining AVL, Amy held finance leadership roles in technology/Saas and CPG companies in San Francisco, Denver and Amsterdam. Prior to her finance career, Amy lived in Tanzania where she worked for a nonprofit focused on entrepreneurial education and job creation for orphan youth.

Amy received her MBA from the Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver, with a focus in finance and social entrepreneurship. She received her bachelor’s degree in Anthropology from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota. A Colorado native, she enjoys hiking, cycling, rock climbing, and has a passion for experiencing new places and cultures.

Tiffanny Ziolkowski

Tiffanny is a successful finance and accounting professional with 20 years experience delivering quality analysis and reporting to executive management. Prior to joining AVL, Tiffanny was the Senior Finance Manager at Nagra, a division of the Kudelski Group which is a global leader in digital security and convergent media solutions for delivery of digital and interactive content. Its technologies are used in a wide range of services and applications requiring access control and rights management and specializes in integrated Digital Television, Public Access, Cyber Security and Internet of Things. She oversaw financial planning and analysis for the Digital Television R&D product unit and management of the company-wide project creation and reporting tools. Tiffanny also served as Controller at Takonka Oil & Gas, Inc. and as Senior Financial Analysist (Revenue Manager) at the McGraw-Hill Companies.

Tiffanny received a BS in Accounting from Regis University and loves spending time with family and friends seeing the world and enjoying the food it has to offer.

Matt has over 18 years of hands-on accounting experience, and has a passion for helping small businesses succeed. Before joining AVL his diverse work experience ranged from the finance department of a publicly traded DOW Jones corporation, to being the sole accountant of a 12-person marketing agency startup. After beginning his career in the large corporate finance environment, Matt decided to transition to accounting for small business. Along the way he developed an enthusiasm for building small business accounting departments and financial systems from the ground up. He gets satisfaction from developing best-in-class financial processes and procedures.

Matt is a CPA, and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Oral Roberts University. Originally from Pennsylvania, he now resides in Austin, TX, and enjoys exploring the Texas hill country with his wife and two dogs.

Prior to joining AVL, Ted was an independent consultant and the Director of Finance at Pasture One, a distributor of sustainable grass-fed beef. Before that, Ted was a Senior Associate at The Forbes M&A Group, a Denver-based investment bank. Ted also has experience in a variety of finance and operations roles at tech startups, international NGOs, and private equity firms. He began his career as an investment banking analyst at Sonenshine Partners in New York City.

Ted earned a bachelor’s degree in Finance and Accounting from New York University's Stern School of Business.

Prior to joining AVL Growth Partners, Rachel Brown was a seasoned professional with experience in high-tech manufacturing (publicly traded), healthcare, and high wealth and entertainment clients (rock bands).

Most recently, Rachel was the Accounting Manager for a technical marketing firm, where she migrated manual processes to automated cloud software. One of the owners commented that she brought 18 months worth of value to the company in just a few months, along with the ability to scale. Rachel has a passion for process improvement and documentation. She refuses to accept 'we've always done it this way!'

Prior to joining AVL Growth Partners, Meridith spent her career in hospitality Finance and Accounting, serving as Controller and Director of Finance for boutique brands such as Thompson Hotels in Los Angeles, to larger properties such as The Venetian Resort Hotel Casino in Las Vegas. After moving to Austin, she has been the leading Finance task force member for three hotel openings, and has assisted in the conversion of numerous hotel acquisitions. Additionally, Meridith has consulted for two hospitality startups and a large animal welfare non profit.

Meridith is a graduate of Cornell University in Ithaca, NY with a BS in Hotel Administration/Accounting.

She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Miami and Master’s in Accounting from Yeshiva University. She began her accounting career in Russia and worked in variety industries including Retail, Real Estate, Investment, Telecommunication companies. Prior to joining AVL, Olga was a Senior Accountant at Vizrt Inc, an international software company. Before that, Olga was a Senior Accountant at Carlo Cazoliny an international retail company. She is highly experienced in implementing accounting procedures, re-engineering business processes and control. She enjoys challenges and considers them as opportunities to grow.

Olga received her Master’s degree in of Accounting and Finance in Russian Academy ofEntrepreneurship. She works on getting her CPA license (all four sections of the CPA Exam and 150 credit hours of educational requirement are completed, and experience requirement is in progress).

Outside of her work, Olga enjoys swimming, hiking, and camping.

In his most recent role Steve spent seven years as the Controller of Canyon Bakehouse, a food manufacturing company, departing after the company was sold. He loves the small business setting and appreciates all the challenges of helping businesses grow. Steve earned a Bachelor’s degree in Finance and Accounting from the University of Northern Iowa. In his free time, he enjoys fishing, boating and other outdoor activities with family and friends.

including Chipotle Mexican Grill and CenturyLink. Most recently she was the Director of Accounting and People Operations for a blockchain/cryptocurrency startup. Iris has worked on a variety of accounting topics ranging from deferred rent to recognizing revenue and gain/loss entries from digital assets.

Lori believes in giving back and is currently volunteering as a court appointed special advocate for CASA of Travis County.  In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, working out “CrossFit” style, camping, and spending time outdoors.

Megan graduated from The Ohio State University (Go Bucks!) with a bachelors degree in accounting. Outside of work, Megan enjoys staying active outdoors with her husband and pup, Ellie. She also enjoys traveling and live music.

Before joining AVL Growth Partners, Audrey Geisman started her career in accounting at an intellectual property law firm where she handled a variety of accounting tasks at the firm, including foreign associate payables and correspondence, account reconciliation, client invoicing, accounts receivable and other various management tasks.
After working at the law firm Audrey worked as an accountant for the State of Colorado Department of Natural Resources. In that position she managed over 200 federally funded grants. She was responsible for all billing, federal reporting, and federal compliance. She has a Bachelor of (Arts/Science) degree in Math Education from the University of Findlay in Ohio and a Master’s degree in Professional Accounting from Colorado State University Prior to her accounting career, Audrey spent several years as junior high school mathematics teacher. She is a fitness and weightlifting enthusiast, has several training certifications, and coaches and competes as a hobby. Audrey also enjoys all the outdoor activities Colorado has to offer, including hiking and snowshoeing.

She is a self-starter with exceptional organizational, analytical, entrepreneurial, and problem-solving skills. Emma has a continuous improvement mindset and always ready to take on the next challenge.

She received her Bachelor’s degree in Business from UNC Wilmington, concentrating in accounting. Most recently, she graduated with an MBA from CU Boulder and completed her CPA license. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, snowboarding, puzzling, and baking.

Kristy Gibbs started off her career as a Probation Case Manager for a private probation company. She soon moved into the role of Director Of Human Resources and assisted the company in growing in size from 20 employees to over 150. During the course of her employment she aided in coordination of opening offices and hiring of employees in 7 additional states. Kristy served as the Finance Manager for the probation company during her last few years of employment.

Kristy received her Bachelor's Degree in Law Enforcement and Justice Administration from Western Illinois University. She relocated to Fort Collins from Iowa to finish up her final semester with a full time internship and decided to make Colorado her home. In her spare time, Kristy enjoys playing tennis, baking, and hanging out with her daughter.

Since then, she has been exposed to various startup and growing companies ranging from medical, service, real estate investment and technologies, etc. She also has extensive experience in project management, with over six years experience working at Fortune 500 companies as Project Support Professional and Project Financial Manager. She is also PMP certified.

Eunice received her MBA degree from University of Illinois at Chicago and is a licensed CPA in the state of New Hampshire. In her spare time, she loves traveling, photographing, and painting.

Eunice is also a bilingual, fluent in both English and Chinese (mandarin).

Most recently, he worked at a small advertising agency in Boulder doing all things accounting, finance, and HR for 4 years and was able to see through a successful sale of the company. He received his bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Cincinnati and was a proud member of the men's soccer team for 4 years. He is an avid fan of the English Premier League, skiing, and trailing running with his wife and 2 golden retrievers.

Mike joins AVL Growth Partners with over 20 year of accounting and operations experience.  Coming from an agricultural and manufacturing background when he moved to Denver from Michigan, where he graduated from Kettering University.  He stayed true to his roots and began working with manufacturing companies.  He likes to dig in and understand what is the driving force behind the numbers and why.  Looking at companies from both the top down and the bottom up.  Understanding what is needed by executives/owners to make sound business decisions and also making sure those entering the data understand it’s importance as it is entered to the accounting system.  

Mike has led several system implementations, working both with the end users and IT staff to make a smooth transition.  He is passionate about finding ways to improve processes that not only to increase efficiencies and reduce cost but maximize systems for company growth without having to increase headcount.  From running a manufacturing facility in China to helping a hemp/CBD startup company to supporting well established companies still wanting to be better.  Mike has helped companies reduce month end/year end close and audits processes and improved overall business operations by implementing control and procedures.  Developing financial packages and creating budgets/forecasts are several of the tasks Mike enjoys jumping into with each company.

Mike spends his free time with his wife and kids and their family of furry friends taking advantage of the outdoors.

She loves a good challenge, with organization and stream lining processes being two of her strengths.

Terri received her Bachelors degree in Business Administration from Kansas State University, with a dual major in Accounting and Finance, as well as a minor in Economics. She also received her MBA from Rockhurst University in Kansas City with an emphasis in Accounting and International Business. In her free time, she enjoys doing anything active and outdoors, especially in the beautiful mountains of Colorado.

Sasha Lee is a senior associate at AVL Growth Partners, with a passion for helping businesses grow. She joins the team with five years of finance and accounting experience focusing on SaaS, manufacturing, and fund services. Most recently, she helped business leaders at the cloud-based accounting software company Xero by developing annual budgets, driving the monthly P&L review process, and performing financial analysis. Before Xero, Sasha provided accounting services to a food and beverage kiosk manufacturer, served as a finance and operations manager at a start-up software company, and worked in fund administration at a financial services and bank holding corporation.

Prior to her career in finance and accounting, Sasha spent seven years working as a project manager in the environmental industry. She received her bachelor’s degree in finance from Rutgers University, graduating summa cum laude. In her free time, she enjoys attending concerts at Red Rocks, traveling to new places, practicing yoga, and attempting to ski.

Prior to joining AVL he spent the majority of his career at Amazon | Whole Foods Market as a leader in financial operations where he helped to drive unprecedented growth and profitability within the industry. Jon spent the last 2 years forecasting over $1B in annual operational expenses for over 500 entities. In 2020, following his passion for a new challenge, he shifted out of the corporate world over to fractional financial consultative services. 

Jon moved to Colorado 20 years ago from Dallas, TX where he earned degrees in Business Accounting / Finance and Computer Science. When not working he enjoys cooking, fishing and running with his highly energetic labrador Tucker.

A St. Louis native, Kim graduated with a BS in Accounting from the University of Missouri (Mizzou-Rah!) and relocated to Denver to begin her career with PricewaterhouseCoopers where she concentrated primarily on middle market and emerging company audits. She also has extensive Controllership experience, working with many Foundry Group portfolio companies. Not only is Kim passionate about her debits and credits, she’s a life-long runner, competing throughout high school and college, earning Track/Cross Country letters at both Arizona State University and the University of Missouri and is a 2015 Boston Marathon qualifier and finisher.

During her time there, she was responsible for studio level and corporate financial forecasting and modeling, preparing board and lender financial presentations and assisting in the sale of the business to TSG Consumer Partners private equity firm in 2019. Prior to that, Lindsay spent over six years at WhiteWave Foods in both accounting and finance positions which included managing the General Accounting team, supporting the Coffee Creamers and Beverages business unit on the finance side, as well as providing Sales Finance support and creating customer level reporting and KPIs. She spent the first 5 years of her career in public accounting on the audit side spanning a wide variety of industries as well as a year in Financial Reporting at Western Union.

Lindsay received a BS in Accounting from CU Denver and is a Certified Public Accountant in the state of Colorado. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling with her husband, seeing live music, golfing and trying new restaurants around Denver.

In addition, John actively Mentors for Seed to Series A accelerator programs such as TechStars, Lighthouse Labs, Seed Spot, and Venture Asheville while cheerleading deal flow into his Angel/VC network; helping raise over $1M in 2021 alone.

 

John recently relocated to Denver and has traveled and worked around the globe.  Outside of the office, John enjoys photographing street art and based on his active lifestyle will probably “recruit” you to join him to go hiking, biking, or a day of urban exploring.

Jessica Watson is a CPA with experience in public accounting. Prior to AVL Growth Partners, Jessica was an auditor at Wipfli, LLP working for clients in a variety of industries including construction, manufacturing, hospitality, and technology. Jessica received her Bachelor of Science degrees in Accounting and Finance from the University of Kentucky. In her free time, she enjoys skiing, hiking, camping, and being in the outdoors.

Tommy Ziolkowski is a CPA with experience in public accounting and financial analysis. Prior to joining AVL Growth Partners, Tommy, was an auditor at PricewaterhouseCoopers working for clients in the telecommunications field. In his free time he enjoys cycling, skiing, and rock climbing.

Brad McKinzie

Brad has over 15 years of experience in accounting and has worked in a variety of industries including: Construction, Manufacturing, Hospitality and CPG. Most recently, Brad serves as the Vice President of Finance for Teatulia Organic Teas responsible for overseeing all accounting functions and processes including financial planning and analysis, financial statement preparation, cash flow management, preparing board presentations and inventory build/cost management. His past 9 years have been spent in the CPG industry. 

Prior to that, Brad oversaw the accounting functions for over 100 restaurants preparing, analyzing and reviewing the accuracy of weekly financial statements and training owners/management how to analyze financials in order to make better business decisions. 

Brad received a BS in Accounting from CU-Denver and shortly after received his Masters in Business Administration. He enjoys spending time with his wife and 2 boys, playing basketball and good Tequila.
